Sambalpuri saree is made from fabric woven on a hand-loom and it this is where hands and heart work together to create grace. The incorporation of traditional patterns such as Sankha (shell), chakra (wheel), phula (flower), all of which have deep symbolic significance make these sarees stand out in the crowd. Red, black and white represent the true Odia culture as it is considered to be the colour of Lord Jagannath(kaalia Thakura) ), but the highlight of these sarees are the traditional "Bandhakala" , the craftsmanship which is reflected in the intricate weaving of the tie-dye art, also known as Sambalpuri "Ikkat". In this technique, the thread is first tied and then woven into a fabric. The whole process takes time ,sometimes weeks depending on design to make a single saree ready as its all hand woven.
